So this just ticked me off…

Saw this short article last weekend in the Burlington Free Press. First, check out the headline:

Obama’s half brother says he married teen in Kenya

The writer leaves the he ambiguous, presumably to make a sensation that President Barack Obama might have married a Kenyan teen long ago.

If you were duped like I was, you’re going to want to read the whole thing now. But it’s not about the president at all. Just read the first paragraph:

“President Barack Obama’s polygamist half brother in Kenya has married a 19-year-old woman more than 30 years his junior.”

Oh.

Well, big deal…a dude married a teen and made her his third wife. Sure, this situation has it’s own problems, but isn’t there more important news out there?

Okay, so here’s what really ticked me off. This article deliberately duped me into thinking that this news was something startling. It turned out to be pretty worthless. The worst part is that it did so with a deceptively ambiguous headline.

I’m even a little bummed that I’ve got nobody to really be mad at for the ruse. The article is signed “Associated Press.”

Lame.

I guess I’m really just mad at myself. I probably shouldn’t have had big expectations for a five-inch article on page three of the Saturday paper.
